About Me

Amanda Wilcox

Welcome to my website.
I hope you enjoy it.

After the birth of my daughter I became aware of the fact that I needed to do something to unwind from the daily activities of motherhood. I joined a Hatha yoga class, not quite knowing what to expect. I found that the session benefited me immensely purely from the point that I was able to take time out for me and to meet some new people. (Also to do a few bends and stretches!) I thoroughly enjoyed attending these sessions and continued to do so for four years, until I discovered Dru yoga!

Dru Yoga in Devon

My yoga teacher in Exeter, Devon, brought along to the class some information about a Dru yoga weekend retreat in South Devon. Curiosity became the better of me and I started to read about this ‘different’ style of yoga. I attended the weekend retreat and was absolutely amazed and bowled over. Although I loved Hatha yoga so much, a strong feeling was brewing that I was looking for something else within my yoga practice, I wanted to take it to another, deeper level. That initial Dru experience brought about an overwhelming feeling of self awareness and an inner contentment that I had never experienced ever before. I enjoyed attuning the natural cycles of my body to work with and alongside nature and its forces.

Benefits of Dru Yoga

Apart from keeping the body flexible and muscles toned, Dru yoga is nurturing and gentle. The soft flowing movements work alongside and with our own energy levels, by attuning and listening to our body’s individual needs.

What I like about Dru yoga is that it is available to everyone. The movements, sequences and postures are designed to allow a sense of freedom within ourselves to explore our inner self. Like pieces of art, once the foundation work and skills have been learnt, then the pattern to create an individual style and rhythmic flow becomes second nature. It’s very beautiful.

I wanted to share the Dru experience with others. In 2005, I decided to commence the Teacher training course in Bangor, Wales. In 2006 I passed my student assessment to teach Dru yoga. I successfully completed the full teacher training course in June 2008. My first three classes began in Cornwall before returning to the Exeter area. It is very exciting to be teaching Dru yoga in my native Devon and such a wonderful opportunity to share the experience with people. If you live in and around Exeter, please come along to one of my sessions and see for yourself. It would be lovely to see you.
